Mengqi (Annie) completed her Master’s degree also with Allyson and will rejoin the TIE-SRL research lab as a doctoral student. Her thesis study largely focused on the relation between culture and self-regulated learning (SRL). Built upon her previous research studies, she has grown a strong interest in understanding how to promote metacognitive awareness for learners with various learning backgrounds to navigate academic and personal challenges and take control of their learning processes. She is also interested in understanding the relationship between moral strivings and SRL; that is, how this dynamic interaction between moral development and SRL helps learners to find meaning through learning and develop social responsibilities, and most importantly, to succeed academically and beyond.

Safoura got her Master’s degree in Educational Sciences, Elementary Education from Shiraz University. She has been working as an elementary school teacher in a public school in Iran since 2017. Her previous research focused on metacognitive skills and the relation between SRL and student engagement.

Muqing had her Master’s degree in Developmental and Educational Psychology from Nanjing Normal University. Her dissertation is about exploring the relationship between multimedia learning, learning style, and knowledge types. Her research interest lies in SRL in MOOC and mobile environments. Her goal at UVic is to be fully equipped with scientific research skills under Professor Allyson’s supervision and contribute to the SRL theory and its practical applications in authentic learning environments.

Once again, welcome to the team!
